Cumulative Heat Indicators
HEATmarker® Irreversible Cumulative Heat Indicators
HEATmarker cumulative time-temperature indicators develop color in the same way most biologics and pharmaceuticals degrade as they are exposed to heat - faster at higher temperatures and slower at lower temperatures. HEATmarker accumulates all of the temperature conditions experienced by the product to which it is affixed. When the color of the square matches or is darker than the surrounding circle, the HEATmarker indicator is showing that the product has been exposed to potentially damaging heat.

HEATmarker is an MKT indicator
The HEATmarker is a mean kinetic temperature (MKT) indicator because, following the Arrhenius equation, the speed of the color development which is faster at higher temperatures is equivalent to the color development over longer times at lower temperatures. MKT information[] The MKT is the best scientific way of expressing the overall effect of temperature fluctuations during storage or transit of perishable goods.

This Patented Technology Supports a Large Product Range
The patented technological basis for the HEATmarker supports a broad range of MKT indicators.  We have developed more than 20 standard categories of HEATmarker indicators that have been formulated to darken irreversibly during time periods as short as days at refrigerated temperature to as long as six years at 80°F. Medical product manufacturers typically choose a HEATmarker category with a color development profile that matches the stability of the product to which the HEATmarker will be affixed.  The HEATmarker then monitors the product until patient administration.
